Passion, Perseverance and Optimism – Keys to Success

*

I’m a firm believer that when you’re truly passionate about what you do – whether it’s your hobby or your career – you will overcome any obstacle and succeed.

Working in different countries and managing multicultural teams for the past 16 years, I learnt there’s something in common about any nationality or geography: being positive about what you do; and working motivated by excitement, as opposed to the fear of failure, is what gets you up in the morning and what makes you successful.

Being a long distance runner and an ambitious professional myself, I’ve heard many times after an injury or a year with not so good results “slow down”, “choose your battles wisely” or even “you are never going to recover”.  Don’t get me wrong, some of them are good advises, and I’m always keen on listening and learning.  I take every single obstacle in life as a learning opportunity, and I can say I came back stronger every single time. Working long hours? Spending months in physiotherapy? It’s all worth it . Many trophies and some great achievements after, I know undoubtedly that it’s passion what moves me, and perseverance and a positive attitude what keeps me going.

And the same applies to my teams. No matter where in the world, or what is the gender or nationality, the most successful individuals have a positive attitude and they have passion. They are hardworking, trustworthy, and they achieve the goals they have set for themselves.

If you are considering a career move, the questions you need to ask yourself are: “Am I really passionate about this job ? Am I willing to go the extra mile?”

If you solely focus on power and money, you don’t necessarily get better or happier. But if you find something you like, and focus passionately on it, success and happiness will certainly follow.

How to retain your UAE National employees

*

Retaining an Emirati employee is as difficult as attracting them in the first place. Most Emirati candidates said they are planning to stay with their employers for three years at the most. Only few of them said they would stay for 5 years.

As an employer and in order to attract and retain UAE National candidates you should not only focus on cash, they are very much interested in reward and recognition programs, they appreciate the other benefits like better access to healthcare as a whole family and education benefits for their children, vacation allowance and other allowances.

Promotions, career progression and leadership programs are very much important to the employees and employers as well. UAE nationals can become disengaged if the employer doesn’t provide them the opportunity to develop their professional skills!

For a fresh graduate the most important elements is the job relevance to their education as well as the salary and benefits. They would like to follow career development plan receiving regular assessment, salary adjustment, promotions to higher grades, annual training plans, etc.

In order to support the Emiratisation strategy in any organization the employers should understand what influence Emirati employees’ decisions to either stay or leave their employers! UAE nationals like employees everywhere, want to be challenged in their roles and grow in their careers.
